Opal Sock Yarn

Opal is a small, family-owned yarn-printing company in the quiet town of Hechingen, Germany, still led by founder Frederic Zwerger. The Zwerger family keeps every step - printing the colours, washing, steaming, and balling - under one roof with a tight team of 28 people. This all-in-one setup keeps them agile: they spot trends, adjust dye runs, and launch new ideas fast.
Their flagship brand, Opal Pullover und Sockenwolle, has a devoted worldwide following, particularly for sock yarns. The classic 75% wool / 25% polyamide (nylon) blend gives the toughness and spring knitters require for daily wear. But the real draw is the precise printing: colours are engineered so bold stripes, soft gradients, or clever patterns appear automatically as you knit in the round. No charts, no switching yarns, just one continuous ball turning plain stockinette into something with sharp zigzags, flowing waves, or rhythmic blocks that feel almost architectural. It's reliable German craftsmanship that quietly delivers that satisfying reveal, row by row. We’ve a big fan!
