Opal is a small, family-owned yarn-printing company in the quiet town of Hechingen, Germany, still led by founder Frederic Zwerger. The Zwerger family keeps every step - printing the colours, washing, steaming, and balling - under one roof with a tight team of 28 people. This all-in-one setup keeps them agile: they spot trends, adjust dye runs, and launch new ideas fast.
Their flagship brand, Opal Pullover und Sockenwolle, has a devoted worldwide following, particularly for sock yarns. The classic 75% wool / 25% polyamide (nylon) blend gives the toughness and spring knitters require for daily wear. But the real draw is the precise printing: colours are engineered so bold stripes, soft gradients, or clever patterns appear automatically as you knit in the round.
